Honoring:
John A. (Jack) Krol
Vice Chairman of DuPont, Co.
FCIF changed course from its annual banquet and held its first FCIF Benefit Breakfast on February 4, 1993 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. Our keynote speaker was John A. (Jack) Krol, vice chairman of DuPont Co.
John Krol dedicated much of his career to DuPont Co., where he ascended through various management roles to ultimately become CEO, President, and Chairman in the mid-1990s. A distinguished graduate of Tufts University, he earned both a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in physical chemistry on a Naval ROTC scholarship. After graduating in 1959, Krol contributed to the development of nuclear submarines while serving under Admiral Hyman G. Rickover. Choosing a different path after leaving the Navy, he declined multiple offers in the nuclear submarine industry and joined DuPont Co. in 1963 at Chestnut Run, initially focusing on Orlon product development.
Throughout his time at DuPont, Krol held various engineering and management positions in product development and sales before transitioning to the Agriculture Products Department. He later returned to lead the Textile Fibers Department as President and was appointed CEO and President of DuPont in 1995. Krol served as Chairman of the Board from October 1997 to January 1999. Since his departure from DuPont, he has remained active, serving on numerous boards across the industry, education, and non-profit sectors, reflecting his commitment to leadership and service in various fields.
