Honoring:
Harry I. Saul
President and CEO of Queen Carpet Corporation
FCIF’s eighth banquet was held on January 23, 1988 in the Westin Hotel’s Wellington Ballroom in Chicago. Our honoree that evening was Harry I. Saul, President and CEO of Queen Carpet Corporation and founding board member of FCIF.
A prominent figure in the floor covering industry for over four decades, Saul made a lasting impact through his leadership of Queen Carpet Corporation in Dalton, Georgia. Born in Hartwell, Georgia, he moved to Atlanta at age 11 and later attended Emory University. In 1939, he settled in Dalton with his wife, Helen, where they opened a family-oriented department store, which originally specialized in chenille robes and later expanded into bedspreads, rugs, and automotive carpeting. In 1969, Saul transitioned the business to focus exclusively on carpeting, renaming the firm Queen Carpet. Under his leadership, Queen Carpet became a leader in the carpet industry, experiencing significant growth in the 1980s.
Known for his integrity and fairness, Saul maintained strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and employees alike. His contributions extended beyond business, as he was actively involved in numerous community and industry organizations. Saul was a founding member of FCIF and served on the National Executive Board of ORT. His commitment to civic causes was reflected in his support of the Dalton United Jewish Appeal, the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army, and several health organizations. Saul received various accolades, including the Distinguished Citizen Award in 1987 and the 1983 B'nai B'rith ADL Torch of Liberty Award. He credited much of Queen Carpet's success to his late wife, Helen. His son, Julian, continued the family tradition as the company’s executive vice president.
