1985 FCIF Banquet

Honoring:
C. R. (Ruddy) Goulet
Chairman of the Board and CEO of Bigelow-Sanford, Inc.

FCIF’s fifth banquet was held on June 10, 1985 in the ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Chicago. That evening, we honored one of our own board members, C. R. (Ruddy) Goulet, chairman of the board and CEO of Bigelow-Sanford, Inc.

Goulet began his career in 1965 as national sales manager at Harding Carpets in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. In 1967, he became vice president of marketing at Imbrex Ltd., the largest floor covering distributor in Canada at the time, and played a key role in founding Bigelow-Canada in 1969. By 1971, Goulet was vice president of marketing for Bigelow-Canada Ltd., and he was elected president of the organization in 1973. His career then brought him to Greenville, South Carolina, where he became president of Bigelow-Sanford, Inc., in 1975. In 1981, he and other senior officers purchased the company from the Sperry and Hutchinson Company.

Beyond his leadership at Bigelow-Sanford, Goulet was deeply involved in the floor covering industry, serving as chairman-elect of the Carpet and Rug Institute and as a member of its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He also sat on the Board of Directors of FCIF, the J. J. Barker Company in Quebec, and the Citizens and Southern National Bank of South Carolina in Greenville. Originally from Montreal, Goulet earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Administration from Concordia University. He and his wife, Raina, lived in Greenville, South Carolina with their son and two daughters.
