FCIF’s fourth banquet was held on June 11, 1984 in the ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Chicago. That year, we honored Joe Maffett, President and Chief Operating Officer of World Carpets, Inc.
Joe Maffett embodied the values of leadership and compassion through his long-standing dedication to both the floor covering industry and those who work within it. Throughout his distinguished career, Maffett consistently showed a commitment to uplifting others, especially those less fortunate. His professional journey included leadership positions at World Carpets, WestPoint Pepperell, and other prominent companies.
A native of Saluda, South Carolina, Maffett held a B.S. in Textile Management from Clemson University, an M.S. in Textiles from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a P.M.D. from Harvard Business School. His contributions extended beyond the corporate world, as he served on various boards in the Chattanooga area, including the Chattanooga Opera Association, Chattanooga Symphony, and Creative Arts Guild. Recognized for his service, Maffett had also received accolades such as the Golden Torch of Hope Award. He and his wife, Patricia, lived in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee with their two daughters.
