M.B. Seretan
Chairman of Coronet Industries
The second FCIF banquet was held on June 14, 1982 in the ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Chicago. The night honored M. B. Seretean, then chairman of the board of Coronet Industries, Inc.
Seretean’s career began as an assistant buyer and sales manager for a rug firm in Dalton before co-founding Coronet Industries in 1956. Coronet became the first tufted carpet firm to go public and was eventually listed on the New York stock exchange in 1968. Under his leadership, Coronet earned recognition from Fortune Magazine as one of the top performing manufacturing companies during the 1960s.
Seretean received a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Science degree in retailing from New York University. He served on the board of directors of four universities and was a member of the executing committee of Friendship Force and the national board of Boys Clubs of America. He also served on the boards of the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Braves, and Turner Broadcasting Systems. He was the primary sponsor of the M. B. Seretean Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University, where he also served as president of the Board of Governors.
